When you see Tag rankings on your video, it shows you where that video ranks in search results when a search is performed on YouTube for that keyword.

Sounds simple, right? It's not.

When we do a search on YouTube, we see different results than you do. We even see different results ourselves if we're on a different computer or different city or country. Sometimes there are different results if we search now versus 10 minutes from now. So what are the "real" results? Well, there aren't any.

In order to get the most accurate results possible, we now default users to "Incognito Rankings." This means your browsing history and preferences do not affect the results. (If for some reason, you don't want the most accurate results and want the results to simple match what you see, you can change this in your Channel Settings - see screenshot below).

Please keep in mind that even with Incognito, results can change minute to minute (usually not by much though). Also, in order to speed up your browsing, there are times that we cache the results on the Info & Settings screen so if the numbers don't look right, check back the next day (or go to the watch page) and see if that fixes it.

We suggest you use your ranking values to gauge movement for a video (if it's going up or down in the rankings) rather than believing that the number shown is the actual ranking position everywhere in the world for everyone.
